A Perfect Day in Puerto de Mogan

When we planned this trip, we booked a tour through Viator called "One Hour Boat Trip and 2 Hour Dockside Wine and Food Tasting".  The company that operates it is called Yellow Boat Tours Mogan.  I think they also do snorkeling tours.  So, that was how we spent our last day in this part of the island.  We were happy to return to Puerto de Mogan as it is such a charming place.  Marta (the captain) and her husband, Ruben (the host) were a lot of fun and so informative.

So, for the first part of the tour, we motored east along the coast to around Playa Amadores.  The scenery is quite dramatic as you can see the layers of volcanic rock from the various eruptions that created the island.  We could also see natural and man-made beaches.  The latter are made from sand imported from Morocco and the Caribbean.  During that part of the tour, we could have complimentary sangria, water, beer, or soft drinks.  We opted for a glass of sangria which was so much better than the stuff we'd tried on our previous visit to Puerto de Mogan.

The dockside part of the afternoon was spent sampling food and wine from the Canary Islands.  The food and wine were served in three courses.  The first was a rose wine with bread and olive oil, a bread with a chorizo, cheese and honey spread, and tomatoes with vinegar, salt and olive oil.  We were off to a great start.  Next was a sampling of three cheeses served with white wine, walnuts, and mini-breadsticks.  That was followed by a selection of fruits and yogurt with a bit of mango jam on top paired with a semi-sweet wine that were delicious.

We sat chatting with two British couples sitting across from us and enjoying the sunshine until just after 2 pm.  It had been a super experience.

At one point, why the houses in the port were the colours they were.  They all have blue, green, brown, or yellow trims.  Apparently, it came from fishermen’s house being blue; farmers, green; and people who raised animals for meat were either yellow or brown.  These days, he said most of the houses on the port are vacation rentals.  One house he pointed out which is quite big -  a duplex sort of – is worth 1.3 million euros.

And, as our last day in this part of the island, it was perfect.
