From Portugal to Spain and then from 10' to 20'

Monday morning, we left Portugal and flew from Lisbon to Gran Canaria (one of the Spanish Canary Islands) via Madrid.  We arrived around 6 pm, picked up our rental car and then started the "short" 35 minute drive to Teror and the VRBO apartment we'd rented there.  It was not without its challenges.  By the time we got on the road, it was quite dark, moving quickly to pitch black; the car didn't have GPS so we relied on my iPhone Google Maps app; and the road was incredibly winding as Teror is located up in the hills in the north central part of the island.  Added to that, it didn't help it rained at times along the journey.  When, after about 40 minutes, we reached Teror and had a very difficult time finding the street where our accommodation was located.  At first I thought it was a dead-end street and then a driveway but after several tries we finally figured it out.  The house itself is lovely - three bedrooms and two bathrooms - but quite a way from anywhere including grocery stores, restaurants or any other amenities.  The views, however, are lovely.

The next day, we drove into Teror, found parking and a little cafe for some breakfast, wandered around and checked out the shops, and then we stocked up on some groceries which, in hindsight, was a brilliant move!  The town itself was quite pretty with a pedestrian street, some cute shops and a church at the end of it.  We then went for a bit of a drive as we wanted to visit Arucas and Firgas but the weather did not cooperate at all - pouring rain and very cool temps.  So, we headed back to our "home" with our supplies.  The next day was so miserable that we just stayed in - on Kim's recommendation, we binge-watched Ted Lasso and I have to admit I like it a lot more than I thought I would.  In the evening, we ate a potato omelet that Spain is famous for that we'd bought at the grocery store - no Uber Eats here! Then, we watched a movie.  Not the sort of day I thought I'd have on vacation but it sure beat being outside in the elements.  Kim had come up with the brilliant idea that perhaps we should just bail on seeing the northern part of the island, particularly as the forecast was "plus de la meme chose", so I phoned to see if we could get some accommodation at one of the resorts linked to where we'd booked on the south coast and that was successful.

The next day (Thursday), we packed up and set off for the 1 1/2 hour drive to a place near Puerto Rico called Amadores.  Seriously, we went from dark clouds and rain to 21' and sun in that amount of time.  There was also a stark change in the topography - from lush, green landscapes to bare lava mountains and the glorious sea.  We'd definitely made the right decision!!  It was 20' when we reached Playa Amadores!  Good call, Kim!
