Last Stop Las Palmas

One year ago, on March 9th, I stayed in Las Palmas prior to going on a cruise.  So, when we made Las Palmas (the capital of Gran Canaria) our last stop, I was really looking forward to being back there.  And, it has not disappointed.  The first evening we ate in the hotel restaurant and I was happy to discover the same fish dish - sea bass served over fried potatoes topped with caramelized red onions was still on the menu as it is delicious, sort of a very upscale version of fish and chips!

For our first day, we took it pretty easy - a late breakfast at a beachside restaurant where I'd eaten several times before.  We went for a short walk then Kim wandered further along the seafront but I needed to rest my back.  Still the view from our hotel, NH Imperial Playa which is on Playa Canteras, is stunning so sitting and enjoying the view wasn't too much of a problem!

Friday, we did a walking tour organized by GuruWalks.  I had done another one last year with Viator which was quite similar but in the reverse order.  Below are photos from yesterday's tour as well as a link to the similar tour I blogged about last year (2025 Las Palmas Walking Tour).  Later we had a light lunch at Oliva, the restaurant where we have been having breakfast. There were some breaker dancers that put on quite a show.

For our last day here, we visited the Poeme del Mar (Poems of the Sea) aquarium here.  It was amazing and excellent.  I hope I've captured some of the amazing sights we saw there.  The way it has been created is really amazing. And, who knew there were so many amazing and different sea creatures!  Everything from frogs, eels, turtles, a crocodile and sharks to seahorses, spiny lobsters and many I'd never heard of before.  At times, you were surrounded by ocean animals as you walked through tunnels.

After that, we went back to Playa Las Canteras and sat at a restaurant on the seafront enjoying a snack (matchstick potatoes) and a glass of wine.  It was lovely but we were a bit sad as it is our last day here and tomorrow we start the long journey home starting with staying overnight in Madrid tomorrow evening before flying back to Canada Monday.  It's been a really great trip, even if we didn't get to see some of Gran Canaria because of the crap weather!
